My Research Activities
I am a research student in the control group of Cambridge
University Engineering Department. My main area of research is into
air traffic conflict detection and resolution, as part of the European
Hybridge project.
Conflict detection is the process of assessing the criticality of an
airspace configuration, with relation to the probability of aircraft
going into conflict (coming too close).
Although this sounds a trivial problem to solve it turns out to be
suprisingly challenging. My current approaches revolve around
statistical signal processing.
Publications
These are unsuprisingly small in number:
Stochastic Reachability for Discrete Time Systems: An
Application to Aircraft Collision Avoidance. O.Watkins and
J.Lygeros. To be presented at CDC 2003 in Maui. PDF file
Forthcoming: A journal paper detailing my recent developments in
conflict detection methods. Just struggling with a couple of minor issues...
