Stability of constrained MBPC using an internal model control structure

S.A. Heise and J.M. Maciejowski (to appear in Advances in Model Based Predictive Control, Oxford University Press)

Using a state space formulation, Model Based Predictive Control (MBPC) is studied in the presence of active state and input constraints. A piecewise linear time invariant control scheme is described corresponding to all possible fixed constraint conditions. Posing the MBPC system in terms of an internal model control framework, tractable stability requirements are then described for stable and unstable plants with perfect models acting under constraints.
