Design of a Robust Two Degrees-of-Freedom Controller for an
Actively Controlled Wind Tunnel Model
G. Papageorgiou and K. Glover
Abstract
In this paper, a robust two
degrees-of-freedom (DoF) controller is designed for an actively
controlled wind tunnel model. The wind tunnel model is geometrically
similar to the High Incidence Research Model (HIRM) that was used in
the design challenge set-up by the Group for Aeronautical Research
and Technology in EURope (GARTEUR). The 2 DoF controller is designed
using a new design procedure. This new design procedure, that is
based on H-infinity loop shaping, enables the designer to meet time
domain specifications defined with respect to the transfer function
from references to controlled outputs (or a subset of the controlled
outputs) accurately and robustly subject to a robust stability
constraint. The controller is flight tested and very satisfactory
performance is achieved.
