The subsequent Symposia took place in 1974, 1976, 1979, 1991. In 1983 the All-Union Conference on Adaptive Systems Theory took place in St.Petersburg with more than 500 participants. The leading experts from the former Soviet Union attended the Symposia. The plenary talks of Ya.Z.Tsypkin became traditional. The volumes of Abstracts and Proceedings containing selected papers have become frequently quoted by experts in Adaptive Control of the former Soviet Union. In order to revive the tradition of St.Petersburg Symposia on Adaptive Systems Theory which played an important role in the development of this field and to commemorate Ya.Z.Tsypkin who has made an invaluable contribution into Adaptive Control, the next, 6th St.Petersburg Symposium on Adaptive Systems Theory (SPAS'99), dedicated to the memory of Ya.Z.Tsypkin. will be organized in St.Petersburg on September 7-9, 1999, dates which are close to Ya.Z.Tsypkin's 80th birthday. SCOPE OF SYMPOSIUM: The scope of the SPAS'99 would cover all the fields of Adaptive Systems Theory in its broad sense and its applications with special focus on its perspective in XXI century. The range of topics to be discussed includes amongst others: - Mathematical theory of adaptive and intelligent systems; - Estimation, identification and filtering; - Sensitivity and invariance of control systems - Robust and adaptive control of nonlinear systems; - Nonlinear dynamics and adaptive control of complex systems; - Intelligent and adaptive control; - Computer-aided design of adaptive systems; - Applications of adaptive control, including industrial, aerospace, marine, economics, finance, etc. ORGANIZED BY: - Russian National Committee on Automatic Control - St.Petersburg Informatics and Control Society - St.Petersburg State University - Institute for Problems of Mechanical Engineering of Russian Academy of Sciences - St.Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the IFAC Technical Committee on Adaptive Control and Tuning. SUBMISSION: The Organizing Committee invites the prospective authors to submit 3 copies of the draft papers (4-6 pages) in English or in Russian by March 1, 1999 to the Organizing Committee. All the papers should include a 1 page abstract written in English.
