Ulivi Scope SY.RO.CO.'94 is the Fourth of the IFAC series of triennial Symposia on Robot Control. Previous editions were held in Barcelona (E) '85, Karlsruhe (D) '88, and Vienna (A) '91. The Symposium will cover a range of topics relevant to the field of robot control, including: Modelling and identification Control design and implementation Motion and force control Learning control and neural networks Sensor-based control Computational aspects Grasp control Multirobot systems Flexible manipulators Telemanipulation Autonomous robots Nonholonomic robotic systems Space robotics Call for Papers Contributions describing original work are solicited on, but not limited to, the above topics. Please submit five copies of draft papers (15-20 double-spaced pages). The first page must contain the paper title, authors' names and affiliations, and complete address of the corresponding author (e-mail, fax, tel), five keywords, and the abstract (200-250 words). It is renowned for its Blue Grotto, Faraglioni rocks, variety of Mediterranean flora and fauna, and beauty of its scenery. The environment constitutes the ideal venue for stimulation and interchange of ideas among scientists. Numerous archaelogical sites testify the island's distant past, such as the Greek Acropolis (6th century B.C.), the Baths of Tiberius, the Villa Iovis (Palace of Tiberius) and the ancient Torre del Faro (lighthouse tower). Among the ancient architectural remains on the island are the Carthusian Monastery of San Giacomo (1371) --planned site of the Symposium-- with the greater and lesser cloisters (15th and 16th centuries respectively) and the Parish Church of Santo Stefano (18th century) whose baroque fagc cade closes one side of the world-famous Piazzetta (little square) in the centre of Capri. The Church of San Michele, the Villa San Michele built on the remains of a Roman villa (magnificent garden and breathtaking view stretching from the isle of Ponza down across the Appenine mountain chain to Calabria), and the Imperial Villa are also worthy of a visit. Capri is 17 miles far from Naples and can be reached by either hydrofoil or ferry-boat. Naples can be reached by plane from major European cities and from Rome and Milan, as well as by train in a two-hour journey from Rome. A wide choice of hotels, typical restaurants, pizzerias, kiosks, shops and boutiques can be found in walking distance from the Symposium location. Climate in September is usually mild with an average temperature of 20 C (70 F), making it pleasant for sun bathing and swimming. The gentle sea breeze and the friendly atmosphere of its outdoors cafg'es, piano bars and discotheques make late summer nights in Capri very enjoyable. The surroundings allow excursions to a number of easily accessible locations of high historical and touristic interest. These include the ancient Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the volcano of Mt. Vesuvius, the holiday resort town of Sorrento, the beautiful Amalfi coast with Ravello and Positano, the isles of Ischia and Procida and, of course, the worldwide known city of Naples with its churches, castles, museums, royal palace, opera theatre, and more... **********************************************************************
