Announcement and Call for Papers for a MINI SYMPOSIUM on the DYNAMICS, VIBRATION, AND CONTROL OF STRUCTURES WITH MANUFACTURING DEFECTS AND DAMAGE International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition The Winter Annual Meeting of ASME 1995 November 12-17, 1995 San Francisco, California, U.S.A. The Dynamics and Control Division of the ASME is sponsoring a mini-symposium on the dynamics, vibration, and control of structures with manufacturing defects and damage at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, The Winter Annual Meeting of ASME, Nov. 12-17, 1995, San Francisco, California, U.S.A. The technical sessions in the symposium are intended to accommodate all aspects of dynamics, vibration, and the associated control strategies in the operation of structures with manufacturing defects and damage. Of concern are: partially damaged structures; machines in service with various degrees of wear, creep, and corrosion; machines with manufacturing defects such as machining faults, residual cracks, and welding and heat treatment defects; structures that are joined with different types of fasteners having tolerances; incorrectly assembled parts; and castings with shrinkage porosity and slag inclusions. Although the operations of these types of structures and machines are encountered in everyday life, their dynamics and control are new emerging areas for research. Papers including modeling, system identification, analysis, and control of the above types of structures will be considered. Both theoretical and experimental aspects will be of concern. Topics which are closely related to the above may also be addressed. Structures made of both metallic and non-metallic materials including composites are of interest. Authors should submit three copies of an extended abstract to either of the following organizers as soon as possible but not later than March 10, 1995. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their papers on or before March 15, 1995. Sympposium Organizers: Dr. Xavier J. R.
