CONTROL SYSTEMS '96 Process Control in the Pulp and Paper Industry Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada - April 29 - May 2, 1996 This conference is part of a biennial series of control conferences held on even years alternately in Scandinavia and Canada. Control Systems '96 is being held in Canada and sponsored by the Technical Section, Canadian Pulp and Paper Association. The Swedish association, Svenska Pappers-och Cellulosa-ingeniorsforeningen, and the Finnish assocaition, Suomen Paperi Insinoorien Yhdistys Ry, are co-sponsors. The Conference Chairman is Alain Roche (roche@paprican.ca), of Paprican, and the Program Chairman is Michel Perrier (michel.perrier@mailsrv.polymtl.ca), of Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The objective of this Conference is to encourage a more effective use of modern control technology in the pulp and paper industry by promoting a dialogue between the researchers (at universities and industry research organizations), the implementers (suppliers and consultants) and the users. Papers with a special emphasis on control performance, control techniques, and successful applications will be given priority. Topics to be considered include: - Process Control Engineering Practice - Adaptive Control - Robust Control - Monitoring of control loop performance - Dynamic modelling for control - Estimation and identification of industrial processes - Model predictive control - Intelligent control - Multivariate SPC / SQC - Neural networks applications. A one-day workshop on modern modelling and control design techniques will be presented the day before the Conference by established experts in the field.
