From Haber-Bosch to Creutzfeld-Jakob: a control engineer's perspective
Prof. Philip Thomas
Professor of Engineering Development
School of Engineering
City University
The engineer's training and experience develop a viewpoint and ways of
thinking that are applicable far beyond the confines of what is commonly
thought of as engineering. The engineer inhabits a world of new,
unsolved problems that he or she is called upon to solve as a matter of
routine. The control engineer studies systems in transition, and this
preoccupation and familiarity with dynamic change makes the skills and
outlook of the control engineer highly relevant to many of the important
problems facing society today.
