Background
I graduated from Robinson College, Cambridge in July 2006 with a Master’ s degree in Engineering and a Bachelor’ s degree (with honours) in Information and Computer Engineering. My final year project focused on Systems Biology. The aim of the project was to produce a mathematical model of a genetic, positive-feedback loop. The predictions generated by this model were then compared to data collected by a collaborator’ s laboratory. We found that the positive-feedback loop, when analysed stochastically is sufficient to cause the phenomenon known as Digital Expression.

Research Overview
As the 2006 recipient of the MathWorks Scholarship, I am now continuing my research into system theoretic approaches to genetic regulation systems and interaction networks in general. My current focus is an investigation into the properties of the Dynamical Structure Function of a dynamic system. The DSF is a factorisation of the systems transfer function and can be used to give necessary and sufficient conditions for the internal structure of a dynamical system to be found. We are examining the robustness of the factorisation with respect to perturbations on the transfer function.
