On H-infinity Dead-Time Compensation

Dr. Leonid Mirkin (Technion, Israel)

Abstract

This talk addresses H-infinity control of systems with dead-time (DT), or delay, in the feedback loop. An approach based on the extraction of DT controllers from the delay-free parametrization will be presented. This approach leads to a simple solution procedure and new transparent and intuitively appealing structure of the resulting controller. In particular, H-infinity controller turns out to be in the form of the generalized Smith predictor (DT compensator) with a clear explanation of the role played by the DT compensating part.

I'll also discuss some extensions to the case of multiple delay.
