The concept of state in linear system theory is closely related to first order representations, i.e. to realizations. In this talk we will discuss the concept of state systems, state representations and state maps in the context of the behavioral approach to linear systems. Based on earlier work by Rapisarda and Willems, the results we discuss represent joint work with Yutaka Yamamoto and Paolo Rapisarda.
